Week 15 – Everything is still standing

The two weeks we were away marked a major step forward in the structural work to install the internal steelwork and beams to support the existing building and enable the continued removal of the load bearing walls to further open up the kitchen. Amidst that, Storm Eunice thankfully had no impact on the building work or surrounding trees.

Visually it may seem like not much has changed in that time but this was always to be the critical period from which the next key developments could continue as the new building takes shape. This will continue into next week as the final steels are still to go in and the last original walls and steel can be removed from the old kitchen.

The wet and windy conditions have arrived just as we have most of the back of the house exposed so it makes for a draughty and cold environment. The builders continue to do a great job reducing the impact and being very clean, but it’s definitely one of those moments where we have to remind ourselves the outcome will be worth it for the short term disruption.

No drone this week for obvious reasons! Instead, here is our plane landing at Heathrow right in the middle of the storm at 14.00 on Friday (it should load as our flight is coming in):
