There seemed to be a lot going on this week with quite a big visual change and lots of talk of the stages to follow now that they are moving to focus on the inside. The main addition was the roof with the wooden structure going up quickly, including upstand frames for the roof lanterns. The rest of the week was focussed on preparing the flat section of the roof to enable the lanterns to be fitted early next week, and then the rest of the roofing and tiling can be completed. We also had our first batch of hand made windows delivered ready for fitting and nearly 200 square metres of tiles delivered on 7 palettes by a lorry driver who really didn’t want to come up the drive. Finally he made it, and the builders thankfully moved and stacked them for use later.
To ensure they had the roof area ready for the fitting of the lanterns, the builders were back on Saturday morning after a full week, and we also had lots to do over the weekend too (not a good time for Clare to be jet lagged after a flying trip to NYC…!). To help prepare for the start of the ensuite, we had to empty the office so they could start bringing pipework up. I think the actual instruction was to make sure we were no longer using it, but we also needed to try and salvage our main desk and set it up in another room. In order for me to start deconstructing most of the bespoke fitted office furniture, Clare had to empty them all first, throw away or store what was left (we found some interesting old photos and a signed football shirt that we had misplaced) and after starting we decided to carry on and empty the whole room.
Hopefully the builders will approve of the stacking of the dismantled office wood, although we did also take a load to the local dump too. All in all a very productive weekend and we now have two new workstations setup so we can continue to work from home without being in the same room (a thing we realised early in lockdown that was very important for our survival!). We should have both the electrician and plumber on site next week as the first fit continues for the kitchen and ensuite.
The drone took some damage this week as I attempted an assault course flight – plus keep an eye out for a ghostly appearance in the window at the end. Clare was out when I filmed this on Friday April 1st…
