As well as lots going on in the house this week, it also marked the first time Clare or I have tested positive for Covid – with Clare initially testing positive on Monday and me following on Wednesday. Clare was clear by Thursday so took on the role of liaising with the builders as we’d kept well out of their way earlier in the week.
In terms of progress they are full steam ahead to get ready for the kitchen fit in a couple of weeks and have focussed on the kitchen in the main as they squeezed in nearly 6 days as worked most of Saturday too:
- Removed the tunnel to open up the kitchen again – yay!
- Prepared first layer of flooring in the extension area
- Dug out the last of the main floor area to complete the drainage throughout the kitchen and down from the ensuite
- Knocked down the last remaining wall of the kitchen to open up the area near the utility room, removing the internal corridor to the extension and building a stud wall to close that access
- Added soil pipe from ensuite toilet in the roof void, connected to existing pipework
- Added a wall in front of the previous doors from the hall to the conservatory – we’ve decided not to try and retain any window in that section
- Plaster-boarded all of the walls in the kitchen, including preparing the new opening for the double doors in from the hall – note some of the plaster-boarding is to be trimmed back to final finishing size
- Removed supporting pillar from the wall in the kitchen to give one flat wall area between the office door and utility area (also to be cut to size next week)
- Installed 2 of the 3 radiators in the kitchen and prepared pipework for the last one
- Built door opening for access to rear porch, and blocked rear door ready for fitting in future
- Bath, taps and toilet located for final plumbing work and adjustments to tap location above the sink, and amended towel radiator taps to be from the wall not the floor
