This was a pivotal week as there was pressure on to complete all of the work required for the kitchen fitting to start this coming Monday. Again, they powered through and a lot was completed:
- Floor levelling was completed ready for tiling
- First batch of tiles were laid on Tuesday (porcelain tiles can go on newly laid floors, fortunately)
- All the internal kitchen tiles were completed on Wednesday and grouted on Thursday
- Walls were white washed once plaster from last week was dry
- Outside patio area was prepared for levelling at a height to align to the kitchen floor
- Patio area was filled with concrete, with drainage areas allowed for – the cats were VERY happy they now had two smooth surfaces to walk on again after months of rubble and plastic
- Tiled floor was then protected to enable ceilings to be painted, and initial areas of wall colour to be applied – sorry we didn’t manage to get any pics before it was covered!
- Annex corridor area has been opened up, removing one internal door and old flooring from the new rear porch area
- Radiators were fitted back in the kitchen and now plumbed to be working fully, as well as a further new radiator in the rear porch and the removal of one from the utility room and two from the hallway – with new ones to be planned in different locations
- Dressing room had first works for new electrics
- Paintwork was completed on external wooden roof joists
- New roof tiles were fitted to the extension roof, including lead flashing – again they worked most of Saturday to make as much progress on that as possible
So we are ready for the new kitchen to be fitted! The kitchen company are due to be here all week and the worktops will be templated on Friday. Whilst they are working on the kitchen area the builders will focus on other areas of the house, initially with more work on the ensuite and dressing room. As they will also be adding a new doorway from our bedroom to the dressing room and starting removing wallpaper from other rooms including the hall and dining room, we had a weekend of moving the remaining furniture out of those areas. Exciting times!
