We reached a major milestone this week, the kitchen fit started on schedule! The Wood Works turned up first thing and were straight into it. By the end of the first day they had the main run of wall cabinets in, and by Wednesday the island and breakfast bar units were taking shape. They finished all of phase 1 to plan by the end of Friday and the templating for the worktops, splash back and breakfast bar had also been completed. We now have 2-3 weeks before they go in, and then one final day of fitting (induction hob, taps, final cabinet doors, removing all protective sheets etc) and we’ll have a completed kitchen!
All appliances were delivered except the two ovens – after lots of back and forth and a possible further unspecified wait to an already 16 week backorder process, we managed to source alternatives online and the orders for them were placed by The Wood Works and are now due for delivery next week.
The work on the kitchen did not slow the rest of the building work down, in fact they made huge strides on a number of other rooms as well as supporting on some of the kitchen work when needed:
- Old cloakroom doors into kitchen finally removed, we now have a new entrance walkway from the hall
- Hallway stripped; removing carpets (and discovering what look likes original flooring and a surprise ornate mosaic tile design), wallpaper and wooden cabinet
- New radiators located in the hall
- Front porch stripped of the horrible pine cladding, revealing bright blue flowery wallpaper underneath, now also gone
- Stairs and landing area stripped; including stair carpet, stairway wallpaper and ceiling woodchip paper
- Annex walls stripped
- Old dining room wallpaper stripped and first coat of paint applied to test condition of plaster
- Stud wall put up in dining room to close off access and mark out new downstairs cloakroom accessed from the hall
- Electrics setup in kitchen with first batch of sockets installed, power to the island now that’s located and all main switches for the appliances built into one cupboard – more to come next week now they have uninterrupted access again
- More painting of various areas including the new extension window frames
- Installation of wall into the ensuite shower area and setup of shower controls
