Week 29 – Painting, Plastering & Prep

After the excitement of last week it was back to the reality of further work in the kitchen and general preparation of the rooms that had been started. There were also noticeably less tradespeople in as the work was focussed on more sedate plastering and paintwork rather than destruction and building work. This will likely be a short term reprieve once the schedule ramps up again after the short Jubilee week. That said, looking back there was still a lot achieved:

  • New office plaster-boarding added to close off the new downstairs cloakroom from the office
  • 1st coat of paint applied to the kitchen walls, with filling and patches sanded for further work ahead of second coat
  • 2nd coat of paint applied to kitchen ceilings
  • Lower patio walls and steps fully rendered
  • Final part of external extension walls first render applied
  • Render edging applied to external walls ahead of final wall rendering to match existing house walls
  • Initial plaster boarding of downstairs cloakroom and first fit plumbing for newly ordered toilet furniture, including drilling through 70cm deep original wall concrete for the soil pipe – that took 10 hours over 2 days alone!
  • Plastering of the lantern up-stands, including the new channels for the LED lighting
  • Plastering of the rear porch area and further work on the removal of the previous rear door frame
  • Preparation of the walls on the staircase and landing area, including filling, sanding and white washing of the walls to prepare the area for future decoration

In addition to this we also took delivery of 4 internal doors, and two ovens arrived ready for the second fit of the kitchen. We also made good progress on some key decisions, ordering the hallway and ensuite tiles and all items required for the downstairs cloakroom. We also have loads of wallpaper samples coming for the hallway and landing wall so we can make a selection.
