As the temperature rose through the week, the work and volume of people slowed a bit as the different trades swapped days again. We started with a focus on further woodwork and making good around the windows that were installed the previous week, but with no sign of the scaffolding yet no further windows could go in. Then the focus switched to painting the external render and a first white coat of the patio retaining walls – it’s felt a long time they have been up so that was a good visual step forward, especially as the completion of that will enable the external tiling to be started.
There was plenty more painting and prep work of the walls in the hall throughout the whole week and then we had the electricians in for the end of the week for the start of their second fix – that meant we had lights and switches in more rooms and the external walls, and initial work on the multiple sockets into the office media shelving.
Summary of activities:
- Hall walls and ceiling around the newly installed steel were filled, sanded and prepared ready for painting
- Floor of the dressing room boarded with plywood
- Windows in the ensuite and dressing room further plastered and architrave fitted (using previous wood)
- Door for the dressing room from the bedroom was fitted using previous door
- External wall to the new extension painted white to match existing house
- Office / snug existing window frame painted to match new windows elsewhere
- Initial coat of final paint colour applied to the office (sorry no pics!)
- Patio retaining walls painted white (initial first coat)
- Kitchen bulkhead filled, sanded and painted
- Ensuite and dressing room lights installed and switches fitted
- External wall lights fitted to extension walls
- Bulkhead lighting first install completed (final fit to be completed to ensure single consistent light)
- Kitchen pendant lights fitted – despite them being the wrong size (too small) and currently hanging too high. Replacements are on their way! We’re hoping we don’t have to wait 8 weeks for them this time…
- Flower bed retaining wall up-lights fitted (but power not yet connected) – to be moved slightly after testing the lighting
- Ceiling speakers fitted to kitchen and wiring ready in the office / snug for connecting the amp
Given the lovely weather we made use of the patio area and temporarily connected and got our garden furniture out, moved out of the way again for next week and whatever that brings! Given the visual changes to the outside we also got the drone out again…
