Week 38 – Locks of fun for everyone!

We experienced a very enjoyable and relaxing slower pace of life for a day on the canals (and locks) of Avon & Kennett, and it felt a little that the builders too were also more relaxed in our absence. The reality is that as we hit peak summer holiday time there are challenges to get the specialist trades exactly when needed which affected the planned tiling this week. That said, we still had a number of people here at various times all week as they cleared off critical items to have a clear run of work internally before the attention moves back outside. The main headlines were finally having the back door fitted and the final windows being fitted upstairs. With both of those completed we are now very close to a completely secure and insulated house for the first time ever. To celebrate we finally fitted curtains again (temporarily) in our master bedroom which means we can pack away the black out eye masks again!

Highlights from the week:

  • Fitting of window in main guest bedroom, which complete the front dormer – now the focus will be on all of the make-good work outside and internally
  • Fitting of side windows to master bedroom and main guest room – these went in very well and has minimised the impact on the side tiles which we were worried about
  • Back door fitted, including double locks securing the access to the rear porch
  • Cat flap fitted into final position, including a long tunnel and micro-chipped lock access for Bella & Bailey. Bella took to it straight away, Bailey not so much…
  • Painting and sealing of window to en-suite and dressing room
  • Further coat of paint to en-suite ceiling and dressing room wall & ceiling
  • Levelling of shower tray to ensure mosaic tiles provide the necessary run off to the drain in the wet room floor
  • Cutting of mosaic tiles in preparation for tiling the shower floor area in en-suite
  • Boxing in of cloakroom wall mounted toilet unit
  • Fitting of first section of tongue and groove panelling to cloakroom wall
  • Removal of wooden frame to newly concreted patio area ready for drainage and tiling
  • Further filling and sanding of landing area, including work around the newly fitted main window
  • Lower walls of stairway and landing to match downstairs hallway
  • Lots of further filling and prep work to various areas throughout the hall and landing area
