Week 40 – Wow, what a deck of a week!

We had high hopes for the week as a number of things seemed to be coming together and the patio door was finally due to be fixed so that we could move on from that. It started well as Monday saw an army of people on site and quickly a number of visual things were being tackled over the first couple of days. Then late on Tuesday FGC turned up to fit the replacement door – but didn’t even get it out of the van as they believed they’d manufactured the wrong size. Faced with the prospect of another 6-8 week delay, we focussed instead on the great progress that was being made. The main builder was on holiday from Wednesday, but had clearly left a load of instructions (and was constantly at the end of the phone for the 5 or 6 people on site) so good progress continued through the week. We then heard back from FGC that the installation team had made a mistake and the door was in fact the correct size – they then managed to find a slot on Friday to fit it, which rounded off a great week.

Key activities for the week:

  • Stair spindles fitted through rest of staircase, and first coat painted throughout
  • Further work on the matching of skirting and dado rails in hall and landing areas
  • Painting of walls, skirting and dado rails
  • Niche shelf cut out in shower of ensuite
  • Wall tiles started in the ensuite, focussed in the shower area
  • Tile up-stand skirting added to ensuite walls
  • Wooden shelf fitted to cloakroom WC unit, and edge trimming prepared above tongue and groove panelling
  • Tiling completed in rear porch, matching kitchen (and to be installed) patio paving tiles
  • Rear door timber work completed
  • Frame for raised decking area in garden built
  • Skirting added to dressing room
  • Stair repairs – replacing curved plywood riser panel, fixing treads and replacing all timber to midway landing area
  • Bannister caps made and fitted to match existing flat style and removed previously rounded caps
  • Patio door replaced so now have a fully working glass curtain door again! (This will officially end the current warm weather btw…)

We expect a quieter start to the week with the main builder away until mid-week, but they may want to continue the momentum from last week
