Week 64 – Small steps forward

The push to complete the outside work continued, albeit with quite a few fiddly pieces and only one trade working at a time through the week. Initially it started with more grouting and final rendering of the walls by the decking area, then the tiler focussed on the steps up to the decking and finally the painter was back for two days to do further coats of the walls and steps. There will be at least another week of outside work to finish the decking, all painting and then the drainage areas before the final slim strip of tiles is fitted to connect the inside and outside tiled areas. We need to order more tiles first though, so this may be pushed out a little further.

Main work this week:

  • Rest of patio tiles grouted and all tiles cleaned
  • Last step in the central stairs to garden rendered
  • Wall by decking area rendered
  • Small steps and wall detail formed to agreed shape and layout, and plastered and rendered where necessary
  • Steps tiled, including main feature landing platform area which is fully cladded in the tiles to create a floating effect (once the earth has been added around it)
  • Steps and walls painted with a white wash throughout

Some good news too on items we’ve had issues with – the concrete table has been re-cast as the original table cracked all the way through the middle. Images were sent to show new pattern and new legs and supporting structure are also being made to provide more rigidity in the new table. In addition, the replacement glass panel of the patio doors is noticeably a different glass and tint, and the suppliers have this week agreed to replace with glass that matches all other doors, which should be completed in 8 weeks time. Thankfully both companies have been excellent and are replacing and installing at their own cost.
