Week 37 – Beating (& keeping) the heat

Understandably a quiet start to the week as the record temperatures on Monday & Tuesday prevented any concerted work outside. Instead, it enabled the painter and decorator to begin work on the staircase. The rest of the week was focussed mainly on the installation of more windows upstairs, but the electricians were also back and the team used Saturday to make up for some of the lost time earlier in the week to ensure they get the most out of next week.

Key highlights:

  • Further sanding and filling of the staircase and bannister
  • Initial gloss applied to staircase ahead of further wood work and filling
  • Stairs painted to highlight remedial repairs needed on each tread
  • More work on the hallway walls and original concrete skirting, including matching gaps from where the arch was removed
  • 2nd bedroom window fitted – that completes the back dormer windows
  • Landing window replaced – this was one of the coldest spots of the house as the single glazed window had a noticeable draft in the winter. Looking forward to the new double glazing resolving that on days its not 40+!
  • Main bathroom window replaced – now just one front dormer window to go, and two side bedroom windows. All will be completed by Tuesday of this week, then the focus switches to the making good of the internal and external woodwork where relevant
  • Ensuite underfloor heating fitted, including wifi control panel
  • Internal window frames filled, sanded and initial paint coat applied to ensuite and dressing room windows
  • Tile up-stands cut for ensuite walls – to be installed after shower floor tiled (tiles for that turned up Tuesday)
  • Lights fitted in cloakroom, room now ready for decoration
  • Lights wired in office / snug, further painting and decorating still needed in there
  • Cabling and sockets installed and wiring tidied in office / snug – one rogue wire to the router to go as I wasn’t here to check all was working!
  • Concreting of patio base to rear porch door area completed to ensure consistent level with new patio area and step onto path round the back of the house
  • Back door delivered and being prepared for install finally to remove the last of the temporary boarding – the replacement glass door is also now booked in for the 8th August with FGC
  • Ring cams installed in kitchen, powered over Ethernet and connected to house system, I also ripped out all prior alarm wiring, alarm boxes and old phone lines to replace with new Ring alarm setup, cameras, motion and contact sensors. Miles of strange telecom lines and multiple switches / boxes were removed – which also fixed our new digital only phone line!
