The weeks continue to tick by with good progress but still quite a lot more to go. This week saw the plasterers and bricklayers back, with continued work from the ever present painter and decorator – he’s on a well deserved holiday next week so some of the internal progress may slow a bit, but hopefully that will be replaced with more of the work outside again. The upside is though that we will have a rest from the heady fumes of paint that has been lingering through the house for the last few weeks as rooms are being completed – the poor cats have been floating on air!
Key activities this week:
- Walls plastered in the annex corridor, this will be the final area for painting and decorating once all dried
- Grouting of tiles in rear porch area to match existing kitchen
- Final (final!) painting and touching up of the en-suite and dressing room, including all skirting and woodwork – these are both now 100% complete and functional for us to use
- Final touch up of office room, finishing last parts of the woodwork and edging detail – we are now ready for the carpet to fitted for this room on Monday, which will be another room 100% complete
- Bricks for stairs up to the decking area, and completing connecting walls ready for final rendering and then painting
- Concrete return platform added above stairs to step on to decking area
- Brickwork detail planned for connecting areas of old patio & paths to new patio
- Initial remedial work carried out on brickwork for path to garage
- Further prep and coats of paint to staircase, including caulking all joins and stairs
- Tidying of materials and equipment to clear kitchen floor area – this enabled us to remove much of the protective floor covering in the kitchen for the first time since the tiles were laid
We have our first carpet going in on Monday, and have ordered the other 4 once each room is ready. The main bathroom strip out should start soon and we will see which trades are assigned next week to progress the remaining outside work including the window frames, decking, laying of the patio, painting of walls and all associated garden work. With no painter for the week, it will likely feel like a slower week.
