As week 51 came to an end we realised that we had hit exactly one year from the first day of work starting – October 28th. The initial estimate had been for 8 months or so but we’ve added quite a few bits along the way and really do feel close now.
The week itself saw good progress on a number of areas, although not quite enough to enable the scaffolding to come down – hopefully that will be this week though as there is now only a small bit of painting of the restored wooden frame surrounds of the dormer windows at the front and rear to go. The chimney work has been completed.
Decorating continued in the annex corridor as well as various areas of finishing for the back door and porch area. Towards the end of the week the plumber was back to start the first fit of the main bathroom.
Main activities this week:
- Wood surrounds to the dormer windows fitted, using mainly the reclaimed original wood
- Chimney painted and all remaining flashing work completed
- Window trickle vents applied externally to upstairs windows
- Back door adjusted slightly to better fit the frame now its fully settled
- Back door and external frame painted with final coat
- Rear porch filled and sanded to improve finish on the new walls
- Woodwork in annex corridor completed to all doors, cupboards, door frames and skirting
- Further coats of paint applied to annex walls
- Initial plumbing for shower, toilet, sink and towel rail completed in main bathroom
