As expected, quite a bit of visual progress this week. The upper decking area preparation has started, including the digging for the steps up to that area and removal of earth to level the ground. That also meant the walls have been backfilled with earth so the garden is starting to look more integrated again. However, the main work was focussed on the outside of the house with the outer wall layers being removed and lots of prep of the roof areas. The team had great fun (!) when they worked out the original house footprint was built using a very old flint and concrete method – meaning the whole wall is one thick layer of it. The house is still shaking from the drilling this has needed.
Most excitingly of all was the arrival and fitting of the first set of steels. As one of them is 9 metres it needed a crane to lift it in to place. Clare captured every bit of that, so there are quite a few more pictures this week!
They will be breaking through to the house next week, so that also marks the point at which we move into a temporary kitchen and the noise and disruption levels increase. All worth it though, and the ideal time to get away for a couple of weeks…
